Close Daisy Daking

Caroline Daisy Daking (although she preferred to be called Daisy Caroline Daking, and also had the nickname Pixie) was a dance teacher of morris, sword, and social dance. 

Born 23 Aug 1884, her background in dance is uncertain but she had attended some of Cecil Sharp's classes at Chelsea Polytecnic in 1911. In 1912 she was assigned as the teacher for the Oxford branch of the EFDS, and in 1915 went to teach in Northumberland and Durham. 

During the war she suffered from a spell of depression, but between 1917 and 1919 she went to work for the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in France and Germany, teaching soldiers morris, sword, and country dancing. On her return she joined the committee of the EFDS which position she held until 1926. 

She continued to work for the YMCA after the war, notably in Plaistow. After a second spell of depression, she died in 1942.
